Man Runs Out of His Home After Winning $5.46M Lottery Prize

A Michigan father couldn’t contain his excitement when he hit the jackpot!

The 43-year-old man from Van Buren County, Mich. scored big when he matched all six Lotto 47 numbers on April 23, according to a press release from the Michigan Lottery. His winning numbers —  13-25-30-35-38-46 — secured his claim to a jackpot of $5.46 million.

The father plays Lotto 47 on occasion and picked up a few tickets “on a whim,” he told the Michigan Lottery. He saw the jackpot amount, which had exceeded $5 million at that point, and told his family he’d be bringing home that money.

“I checked the winning numbers online that night after the drawing and recognized them instantly,” he said. “I had to recheck the numbers several times after seeing I matched them all because it was so surreal.”

He added, “Once I was sure I’d really won the jackpot, I ran out the door and down the street because I was so excited!”

The man said his wife wasn’t sure what was going on after her husband had randomly bolted out of the house, so his daughter told her, “I think dad just won the lottery!”

He added, “Winning a prize like this feels unreal and is still sinking in.”

The retailer, a Speedway gas station in Kalamazoo, will also receive a bonus of $5,000 for selling the winning lottery ticket, said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli.

The winner recently claimed his prize, per the press release, and opted for annuity payments of $182,000 for the next 30 years (as opposed to a single lump sum of $3.7 million). The man said his winnings will go towards providing for his family.

Lotto 47 costs $1 per ticket, and has players choose six numbers — one through 47 — for a chance to win a $1 million jackpot, which increases until someone wins.
